Tanzania’s largest city, Dar es Salaam, could benefit from a new toll road network in a project worth US$1 billion. This would reduce congestion and journey times in the city. A total of 10 toll roads would be built, with six for the inner city as well as four ring roads.
The programme of works has been put forward by Chinese contractor, China Overseas Engineering Group (COVEC). The firm is in discussions with Tanzania's Government over the proposals. The project would be carried out under the PPP format and COVEC has already carried out a pre-feasibility study for the work. COVEC is now keen to carry out a comprehensive feasibility study.
